The city’s name “Makati” come from a Tagalog word kati, which roughly means tide, this referring to the tidal surge of the Pasig River which is located just north of the city.
Makati City belongs to the seventeen urban districts that make up the Metro of Manila. With its population of over half a million people, Makati is rated as one of the top fifty most populated cities on the planet with over 7000 residence per square mile.
In recent years Makati has become known as the economic heart of the Philippines as it now houses the Philippine Stock Exchange and the very influential Makati Business Club. For this reason and others it has been nicknamed the “Financial Capital of the Philippines”.
But it’s not all work and no play in Makati, with the commercial sectors growth the city has also been gaining a reputation as a major entertainment centre in Manila.
